Project:
Cap Cana Resort Equestrian Center
Location:
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
The
Cap Cana Resort is located on the eastern shore of the Dominican
Republic and offers its guests a wide array of accommodations and
recreational and leisure activities. A new venue being considered
is an equestrian center to host regional horse shows and polo matches
as well as allow guests to take riding lessons or simply go trail
riding.
CMW
used our extensive experience in designing equestrian centers and
facilities in a wide array of climates and locations to develop
a masterplan for the resort. The project includes stabling for resident
and visiting horses, covered and outdoor riding rings, turf and
sand rings, a clubhouse with guest amenities, a veterinary clinic
and quarantine barn, two polo fields, maintenance and storage buildings,
turn out paddocks, as well as riding tails.
An
overriding theme and concept for the initial planning was to maintain
clear and separate circulation paths for the horses, competitors,
staff, spectators and guests. Implementation of this concept will
ensure a safe and functional facility which enhances the experience
of all the users, from beginners to the most experienced riders.
Environmental
sensitivity was also an important factor in the planning of the
equestrian center. The natural beauty of the land is preserved to
a large extent by siting the various features amongst the natural
vegetation ad working with the original topography. Riding trails
and riding rings are surrounded by native landscaping to allow guests
to relax and enjoy being part of this Caribbean environment.
CMW's services
included evaluating and assisting in the development of the overall
program for the center, site evaluation, and masterplanning.
